New for the Lowcountry Journal, Mad Mike's Book Club. Most of you may not know, but our friend Mad Mike is an avid reader! Mike will be recommending some of his favorite books that he's read recently or in the past. For the first Book Club, Mike's recommendation is a classic: The Longest Silence by Thomas McGuane.

Thomas McGuane is one of my favorite authors. He is also is an accomplished fly-fisherman. Though he is best known for his fictional work, this book is a collection of short stories about his fishing adventures throughout the years. Everything from trout fishing in Ireland, to tarpon fishing in the keys. Tom has traveled the world, and no one is better suited to bring those places, and experiences back to life through the pages of a book. This is a great read, and no fly-fisherman's library would be complete without a copy on the shelf. Enjoy!
